Syble Marie Hillis (Wilmoth)
Syble Marie Hillis, 78, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Williamsville, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at her residence. She was born on March 30, 1939, at Metropolis, IL, to parents Walter and Goldie (Franklin) Wilmoth. On January 21, 1956 she was united in marriage to Paul Finis Hillis and to this union five children were born. She was known to be a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Syble had worked for many years as a certified nurses assistant at Doctors Regional Medical Center, Poplar Bluff, MO. There she worked in the OB department, a job that she truly enjoyed. In free time she enjoyed crafting and painting, family get togethers in which she went out of her way to make those times special. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Syble enjoyed singing and sang with a church group for many years in St. Louis. Syble is survived by her loving husband Paul of the home; children, David Hillis and wife Sherry of Springfield, MO, Stephen Hillis and wife Edna of Jonesborough, TN, Timothy Hillis and wife Naphtali of Flagstaff, AZ, and Beverly Smith and husband Michael of Poplar Bluff, MO; grandchildren, Michelle McMillan, Tiffany Mackey, Bethany Hillis, Steven Hillis, Jessica Hillis, Brittany Lundeen, Faith Bergner, Caleb Hillis, Tonya Worley, Tommy George, Ronnie White George, Keeleann Pickard, Matthew Smith, Nicole Burdin and Sarah Willard; thirty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Melvin Nunn and wife Virgie of Poplar Bluff, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cheryl Smith; three brothers, Lee Nunn, Delmar Nunn and Jim Nunn; and three sisters, Blanche Marvel, Stacey Hillis and Norma Tubb.
Visitation was held Thursday, December 14, 2017, at 6:00 pm, at First Assembly of God Church at Williamsville, MO. Services followed at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 15, 2017, also at the church. Pastor Helen Edwards ministered to the family and Syble's family gave eulogies and led the congregational singing. Steven Hillis, Matthew Smith, Tommy George, Jake Worley, Caleb Hillis, Jordan Bergner and Bob Smith served as pallbearers. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.
